lyrics
Touch the water
and watch them fall over,
tell your mother
he's as sharp as a flower--
tell your mother
he's as sharp as a flower.
Touch the water
and watch them take cover,
tell your mother
he's as thick as an oyster--
tell your brother
he's as sharp as a flower.
Father, dear, I'm getting older
and the room it seems so awful golden
tell your mother
he's not a kid any more...
Touch the water
it's as soft as a feather,
tell your mother
he's as hot as the weather--
tell your brother
he's as sharp as a flower.
Father, dear, I'm getting older
and the room it seems so awful golden
tell your brother
he's not a kid any more...
Father, dear, I'm getting older
tell your mother
that she's lost her soldier--
tell your brother
he's not a kid any more...
This is the best album of 2020. I'm glad I have it in digital format, because I would have utterly worn out any physical format.
John's subject matter is always personal, but in this album, he somehow makes the epic personal. He tells the story of the death of the ancient world in this light I've never really considered it in. He makes this random segment of late antiquity somehow unsettlingly relevant to 2020. It's an album of change, of entropy, but also of defiance, of hope. PRESS AN LP <3 lordscrubjay
The Black Lips return with a record that draws heavily on country music, spiking it with their time-tested irreverence. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 7, 2019
