The Apples piece is the first recorded experiment the band made with Robert Schneider’s invention, the Teletron mind controller for synthesizers.
Breathers provide an epic, ambitious, electronic piece incorporating the non-Pythagorean musical scale based on logarithms Robert Schneider invented and introduced on their 2007 double LP New Magnetic Wonder. Robert Schneider about the Breathers side: “Breathers are my favorite contemporary band. That they used my non-Pythagorean scale for this incredible piece is such an honor for me.“
An excerpt from this piece was originally released with the instructional video Teletron for the Populace (2010) released by The Apples in stereo, on how to build a mind-controlled synthesizer.

Me and my friend used to go on drives all the time, and a lot of the time i asked what he was playing, and a majority of the songs were from Yo La Tengo. And since i went and listened to And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out i was fan. Never thought i’d buy one of their records for myself. violetstain
